Job Description – Job Coach (Maternity Cover)

Responsible to: Access to Community and Employment Co-Ordinator

Salary:  SP 12     Actual Salary:  £7,225.83

Hours: 20 / 43 weeks


To develop the Achieve aspect of our College Curriculum by delivering ‘Off-site’ Work Experience and Supported Employment opportunities to our students

Key responsibilities:


  • Work alongside college tutor to develop external work experience tasters
  • Support, observe and record on progress of the off site work placements using a work diary.
  • Help students achieve their full potential towards part time paid employment
  • Undertake employer based reviews
  • Work as part of a small team assisting approximately 20 students with a learning disability to access training and employment opportunities.
  • Support people with learning disabilities to participate in a range of employment related activities as highlighted in their individual learning plans and work profiles.
  • Work with each person to maximise their potential and demonstrate their ability to be as independent as possible in their aspiration to gain meaningful work experience or progress to supported employment.
  • Help students gain both ‘on site’ and ‘off site’ work experience placements
  • Arrange risk assessments and start date and times.
  • Establishing transition from placement to continuing work experience or supported employment placement.


There are four stages to the supported employment programme process;

  1. Finding the supported employment placement
  2. Develop the supported employment placement with the students
  3. Transferring the placement into part-time employment
  4. Helping the student retain the employment.

There are a similar range of stages associated with finding successful work experience placements, but without the need to establish students in part time paid employment.
