About The College

STUDENTS

Camphill Wakefield offers young people with moderate to severe and complex learning disabilities the opportunity to develop skills for the next stages of their lives.

Like all Camphill communities, we take a holistic, therapeutic approach. We believe that all people are equally deserving of respect and should have the opportunity to develop their full potential.

The college is both day and residential (up to 60 places). Students usually join  immediately after leaving school, and are aged between 16 and 25.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

At Pennine all areas of the students’ lives provide opportunities for learning and progress on their individualized pathways to Adulthood. There is a lively, stimulating, structured environment that draws students into the learning process and allows them to thrive. Students learn the importance of being healthy; enjoy the social opportunities and community inclusion while developing independent-living skills. The majority of the students will develop work-related skills that can be transferred to external work experience and may lead to supported internship placements near to their chosen home location. Our approach stimulates creativity and allows students to build a sense of achievement and develop self-confidence and self-esteem.

Many creative and artistic themes run through our college year, giving students a broad learning experience. This is supported by a programme of therapy where indicated including speech therapy, art therapy and horse riding.
